Today I was setting up Exchange 2007 on a VM in a test lab and I came across this when I was running the Best Practices Analyzer.
The bit outlined in red shows a warning stating that “VMware Detected” which is ironic since VMware is a supported platform for exchange to run on and there are many resources on how to configure exchange on VMware. Just a funny find. Tutorial on configuring ESX and ESXi syslog coming up soon!

What MS OS are you running it on?
This was a Windows 2003 Enterprise x64 I think. It still works fine, I just found it funny that VMware was a “warning”.
I wonder if there is a “Hyper-V Detected” warning as well?
Eric
Hah, I will have to try that! Ill post an update.
The warning is meant to raise awareness of the scope of support available from Microsoft when running their software (Exchange in this case) on non-Microsoft hardware virtualization solutions. That warning is meant to take you to this KB article. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/897615There you’ll see that Microsoft with work with 3rd Party vendors that are on the Server Virtualization Validation Program (SVVP) on problems that are determined not to be software related and the virtualization platform is not Microsoft’s. VMWare is on the SVVP. But, to be fair it’s likely also meant to plant a seed of interest in using Hyper-V instead so that support can be isolated to one vendor, Microsoft.
